Sensitive skin requires special care and more attention. Not all cosmetic products are suitable for her, and a special approach is needed even in daily care. See 7 tips on what to do and what not to do if you have sensitive skin.
1. Do not bathe in hot water
Bathing with hot water is not recommended, regardless of skin type. For sensitive skin, however, it is imperative to avoid it. The hot water washes away the sebum and leaves the surface less protected. Bathing in hot water can cause itching and even a feeling of discomfort for up to several hours after bathing. If you have sensitive skin, take a shower with lukewarm water. Choose a fragrance-free shower gel.
2. Use micellar water
Not every cleaner is suitable for sensitive skin. At the same time, it requires good and complete removal of sebum, make-up, and impurities, so as not to lead to clogging of pores and inflammation. The best and gentle cleansing product for sensitive skin is micellar water. The brand does not matter much. It is important to avoid sparkling cleansing cosmetics.
If you have sensitive skin, you should always read the labels. The American Academy of Dermatology gives interesting advice:
The product must contain no more than 10 ingredients
The more ingredients, the more likely any of them to cause irritation.
4. Hydrate without missing
Hydration is key for all skin types. For the sensitive – even more so. Well-nourished skin is healthier and manages to protect itself more effectively from environmental irritants. It is recommended to moisturize sensitive skin in the morning and evening.
5. Always test cosmetics
If you have sensitive skin, then you have certainly “suffered” from a bunch of cosmetics. This is a lot of money thrown to the wind because these cosmetics are useless for you. Always test before using a product on the whole face or body. Put some cosmetics on the wrist or behind the ear and wait for about 20 minutes. If there is no itching or redness, then these cosmetics will almost certainly be suitable for you.
6. Less is better
Use a small number of cosmetics. Allow the skin to “rest” from time to time. Weekends at home are perfect to forget about beautification for a while.
7. In case of a bad reaction – it’s time to rest
If your skin reacts to certain cosmetics with redness/itching, you need to take a step back. First, stop using the product immediately. Second, allow the skin to heal. Let it “breathe” for a day or two, using only a moisturizer.
